How To Make Corrections In Your EPF KYC Online; Step-By-Step Guide

Employees are required by law to link their Employees Provident Fund (EPF) account to their Aadhaar number and other documentation. The need for KYC (Know Your Customer) has grown due to the numerous internet scams and security lapses. Not only that but on the Employee Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) portal, some advantages are exclusive to members who have had their KYC verified.

To simplify matters, EPFO has introduced an online KYC facility for EPF members on its Member e-Sewa portal. This would make it easier for EPF members to update their account information and complete their KYC online.

The EPFO’s new facility is known as ‘joint declaration’. If you need to make adjustments to your EPF account, you may simply fill out a joint declaration form online.

What Is A Joint Declaration Form?

A joint declaration form is an EPF form that is used to update Provident Fund (PF) member information.

To rectify the incorrect information recorded in the employees’ PF accounts, the employer and employee sign a joint form that is sent to the regional PF commissioner.

What changes are you allowed to make?

Using the joint declaration form, you may modify any one of the eleven parameters. Aadhaar, or the Unique Identification Number (UID), is one of these factors along with the name, gender, DOB, mother and father names, relationship, marital status, joining and leaving dates, reasons for leaving and nationality.

Members must provide a list of approved documents with correction requests, as given by the EPFO, depending on the necessary corrections. To correct the name, Aadhaar will be needed. A passport, birth certificate or any other required document issued by the Registrar of Births and Deaths must be produced in order to have the date of birth corrected.

Keep in mind that members can only modify their information in the EPFO records a certain amount of times. For example, you can only change your name and gender once, but you may change your marital status twice.

Steps for online KYC in an EPF account:

To complete KYC online on the EPF account, follow these steps:

Step 1: Go to the Member e-Sewa site and sign in with your password, captcha code and UAN (Universal Account Number). You will receive an OTP (one-time password) on the phone number associated with your Aadhaar.

Step 2: Reenter the captcha and OTP.

Step 3: Select ‘Joint Declaration’ from the ‘Manage’ menu after logging in.

It will open a new webpage. Choose the EPF account number or Member ID.

EPF members will be able to update both personal and service data. The website will display EPFO’s records and provide a box that can be edited by members.

Step 4: After making the necessary corrections, tick the box to indicate that you agree to this joint declaration using Aadhaar to verify identification. Next, select ‘Proceed’.

Step 5: The EPF member must now upload the necessary papers based on the modifications made to the EPF account. Click ‘Submit’ once you have uploaded the necessary documents.

Upon approval by the PF authority, the modifications will be reflected on the EPFO portal.

The KYC updating procedure typically takes 20 to 25 days.

If there is a delay, the EPF member should get in touch with his or her employer to find out if the request for a joint declaration and KYC has been authorised by the company.
