Documents you will need to submit when applying for higher pension under EPS

If you are an employee eligible to submit the application for higher pension under the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS), you may be wondering about the list of documents required to be submitted along with the application form

According to the window opened by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) on the Member e-Sewa portal, an eligible individual should keep the following documents handy before submitting the application form:

a) Universal Account Number (UAN) for existing employees
b) Pension Payment Order (PPO) in case of retired employees
c) Mobile number linked with the Aadhaar number
d) Member’s Aadhaar number, name and date of birth should be available in the EPFO’s records

Apart from these documents, certain other documents are also required to be submitted along with the application for higher pension under the EPS

Tapati Ghose, Partner, Deloitte India, says, “As per a recent Supreme Court ruling, the option for higher pension should be exercised by way of a joint declaration by eligible employees and their employer by May 3, 2023 – the deadline extended by the EPFO for certain categories of employees. The December circular is applicable for those members who exercised the joint option for higher pension contributions in the past but the applications were declined by the PF authorities. These are the employees who have retired prior to September 1, 2014. The February circular is for those members who contributed to the PF on a higher salary but did not exercise the joint option to contribute on the higher salary towards pension, and who were members prior to September 1, 2014, and continue to be members thereafter. It would also include the EPF members who have retired after September 1, 2014.”

From the circulars issued till date by the EPFO, Ghose lists out the documents that are required to be submitted to apply for higher pension under EPS.

If you are a member who is currently working or retired after September 1, 2014, the following documents are required to be submitted:
